How To Care For Mother Of Thousands Complete Guide

The mother of thousands names is very nice and attractive for everyone who hears it for the first time, but if you see this flower, you will realize why that name was given to this flower. The mother of thousand has many names, people knowing various names such is Mexican Hat Plant, Alligator Plant, and Devil’s Backbone. But The binomial name of the mother of thousands is ” (bryophyllum daigremontianum).”

However, when you look at its creation, the large blue-green leaves are arranged narrow and make it so beautiful and grow almost 6-inches long and 3-inches wide. This plant can easily grow approximately 18 to 35 inches long. The mother of thousands of plantlets is tinny in size and looks more beautiful when growing along the leaves’ edges.

These small and narrow plantlets easily drop from the plant. You can remove a plantlet from the main plant and simply pull from the leaf. You can easily put plantlets on well drained soil. Mother of thousands too tall in size if you let it and not care or cut it timely.

Mother of Thousands Propagation

The propagation of this plant is very easy as other plants.

  • You just remove some of the plantlets from the mother leaf and put on the cactus or well-grained soil and mix it on its pots.
  • Keep in mind the pot should be regular in size and not too deep.
  • Now, place the plantlet on the soil and cover it with plastic wrap.
  • Then put this pot in a sunny place.
  • One thing remembered is never to put lots of water daily on the soil. Just put some water in to maintain its moistness.
  • Keep the soil moist. After some time, if you see the plant is going too tall, you should remove the plastic wrap to grow up easily.
  • You can replace it when you prefer a bigger space for it.
  • Best suited temperatures of 65 to 75° Fahrenheit (16 to 24° Celsius)
  • Keep the plant away from direct heat

Mother of Thousands Varieties

As we have mentioned above, The term ‘Mother of Thousands’ is a general name and the mother of thousands is the varieties of Bryophyllum or Kalanchoe. Thy reproduction of this plant along with the leaf margins.  Although this plant has various genus,   they are referred to as kalanchoe, but they are different. The methods of reproduction are different for all plants.

Lots of Watering should be avoided to give the water when soil is dry.  Keep in mind not to leave it wet entirely because it might cause damage to the plant. You may use only room temperature water.  The unique thing about this plant is it likes to leave dry thoroughly and loves moist soil for growing.

YES. Every leaf and plantlet of Mother of Thousands is toxic, even the tiny pups of the leaf are poisonous for everyone. You should Keep away this plant from pets and children. We have heard many cases of severe sickness due to this plant, such as vomiting, diarrhea, and heart palpitations.

Mother of Thousands vs. Mother of Millions

The main difference between the mother of thousands and the mother of millions is the shape of their leaves. Although Mother of Thousands has broad, tear-shaped leaves and they always grow in pairs or narrow shapes. All plantlets grow in the opposite direction of the stem.

Whereas,  The Mother of Millions has very tiny leaves. All leaves grow in the same place on the stem and the node. The similarity of both they have the same genus, and sometimes looks very similar, and both are Madagascar, with the same varieties and same treatment, such as the sun, water, and soil. The mother of thousands leaves grows Wide and grows in pairs, but the mother of millions develops narrowed.
